The Queensland Australian Meat Industry Council’s annual Regional Sausage King & Best Butchers Burger Competitions are about to kick off. The Sausage King is now in its 18th year, attracting over a thousand entries per year. The Burger Competition was added in 2015 and both competitions are held together in 10 regions throughout Queensland, starting in February and running through to July.
The 6th regional heat is Outback and will take place at Jandowae Timbertown Festival, Jandowae, 9.00 am – 1.00 pm on Sunday 10th June. Entries will be scrutinised on the uncooked and cooked appearance of their sausages and burgers. The products will then be taste-tested for flavour and texture. Points are also awarded for presentation and professionalism and creative new recipes will no doubt impress the judges.
Regional winners then progress to the State finals which will be held at the EKKA at the RNA Showgrounds, Bowen Hills, on Sunday, 19th August 2018. These state finals determine which butchers are truly entitled to wear the crowns for best Burgers and best Sausage Kings in Queensland. State winners will then go on to compete at the National Finals in Perth in February 2019.
Competitors can choose to compete in any or all of these categories:
